Weekend of art, education and music raises gynecologic cancer awareness

As Cervical Cancer Awareness month comes to an end, Let Every Woman Know - Alaska is keeping the conversation going with its 8th annual Gynecologic Cancer Awareness and Arts of Healing weekend. Festivities kick off Friday, Jan. 31 in Anchorage. The weekend will feature a showcase by artists who have been touched by cancer, a free gynecologic cancer course and a benefit concert at Koot’s.

Last Friday Art Showcase
Friday, Jan. 31 |  5 - 8 p.m.
Georgia Blue Gallery

Artists whose lives have been touched by cancer are being featured at the Last Friday Art Showcase at the Georgia Blue Gallery. One hundred percent of the proceeds from art purchased will go back to LEWK. Light appetizers and drinks will be provided. For more information, click here.

Gynecologic Cancer Education Course
Saturday, Feb. 1 |  8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 2 |  8:45 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Providence Cancer Center 

Learn about the latest in GYN cancer care, treatment and symptom management from six gynecologic oncologists from around the country. This free two-day course will also feature runner and cancer survivor Helene Neville, along with special presentations of music and dance. Dance Like Barb Rhythm Heals Benefit Concert
Saturday, Feb 1 |  6 - 11 p.m.
Koot’s

Dance the night away and join the fight against GYN cancer with vintage soul Motown band Joshy Soul & The Cool at the Dance Like Barb Rhythm Heals Benefit Concert. The show includes special dance performances by Underground Dance Company and the Tap Studio. Closing out the show is the local Polynesian reggae band, H3. Tickets are $25. All proceeds made at each event benefit LEWK and its mission to provide creative statewide education, support, advocacy and arts programs unique to Alaska’s diverse communities. LEWK is dedicated to preventing, facing and ending gynecologic cancers.
