Keeping breast cancer on the run

We’ll be lacing up our running shoes this Saturday for the annual Alaska Run for Women in Anchorage! For the 11th year, Anchorage and Valley Radiation Therapy Centers are proud to be a Pink Diamond sponsor of the race, manning the Mile One water station. Every year, thousands of Alaskans unite for the race, all supporting a common goal: ending breast cancer. Last year, the race raised more than $240,000 for breast cancer research, education and prevention.

Keep an eye out for the AVRTC team at the race! We’ll be cheering you on at the Mile One water station at the corner of 9th Ave. and E St. Thank you for participating and helping us keep breast cancer on the run!

Until then, here’s a look at team AVRTC at the run in years past:

ACR Accreditation

AVRTC has earned its ACR reaccreditation. The American College of Radiology awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. Board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct image quality and procedure evaluations. The program also evaluates personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs. All findings are reported to the practice via a comprehensive report that includes recommendations for improvement. We received our first accreditation in 2013.

Gamma Knife® Icon™

We’ve recently added the Leksell Gamma Knife® Icon™, the latest radiosurgery device available on the market, to our line up of treatment technologies. The improved Icon™ allows for select patients to receive the same superior precision as before, but using a more comfortable mask and imaging capabilities used to localize the tumor before and during treatment. Icon™ limits radiation dose to surrounding healthy tissue and expands the range of treatments offered, allowing patients to complete treatment in a single session, or in multiple sessions when appropriate.
