Stephen H. Settle, M.D., Ph.D.

stephen settleDr. Stephen Settle and his wife always dreamed of returning to their roots on the West Coast, so when he was recruited as the medical director of the Alaska Gamma Knife Center in 2013, they jumped at the chance to move their four children to Alaska. Dr. Settle is spearheading the Gamma Knife® program at Anchorage Radiation Therapy Center which uses the latest cancer treatment technology, the Elekta Gamma Knife® Perfexion™, for non-invasive treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors and conditions in the brain.

After graduating from Stanford University with a Ph.D. and earning his M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Settle completed his residency training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was later recruited to a joint-faculty position at MD Anderson and the Baylor College of Medicine, where he held dual appointments as an assistant professor.

In addition to treating patients with cancer, Dr. Settle conducted translational research on brain and spine tumors and served as the course director for resident doctors training in radiation oncology. While at MD Anderson, Dr. Settle developed expertise in stereotactic radiosurgery of the brain and spine, including the use of Gamma Knife to treat patients with intracranial disease.
